One girl has already had a significant impact on the solar system despite having spent only 8 years on the planet Earth. Nicolinha Oliveira of Brazil has been dubbed the “world’s young astronomer” because of her accomplishments in the field of astronomy. A recent interview with AFP revealed that Nicolinha has already detected 18 early detections of what could be asteroids, which she detailed in more detail. Initial observations must be certified, which might take months or even years depending on the complexity of the situation. If any of the detections are confirmed, she will be the world’s youngest individual to have discovered an asteroid at the age of twenty-one. As a result, Luigi Sannino, who discovered the asteroid now known as “12575 Palmariaat” when he was 18 years old in 1999, will be surpassed in the record books. She hopes to name the asteroids after great Brazilian scientists and members of her family, if her instructions are shown to be valid after further examination.
In recent years, Nicolinha has taken part in the Asteroid Hunters project, which is a collaboration between the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC) and the Brazilian Ministry of Science with the goal of igniting interest in astronomy among the general public. So far, hundreds of citizen scientists from around the world – ranging from India and Iraq to Spain and Nigeria – have participated in the initiative, resulting in at least 185 preliminary detections, with 85 objects being discovered. Nicole made seven preliminary detections, according to the IASC, during the most recent campaign.
She used to ask for a star when she was two years old, according to her mother Zilma Janaca. “When she was two, she would raise her arms to the sky and say, “Mom, give me a star,”‘ she said. “When she asked for a telescope as a birthday present for her fourth birthday, we realized she was serious about her interest in astronomy. ” The term “telescope” had never occurred to me,” Janaca continued. A brief glance into Nicolinha’s room will reveal that she is seriously captivated with space, just like any other young buck with their heads in the stars. She has Star Wars toys, astronomy posters, and astronaut-themed decorations adorning the walls of her room, which she uses to scroll through photos of space in order to find asteroids. She also broadcasts her YouTube channel from this computer, where she has interviewed a number of well-known people from around the world, including Brazilian astronomer Dulia de Mello and Andressa Costa Ojeda, a Brazilian aspiring astronaut.
So far, Nicolinha has undoubtedly accomplished a great deal in her brief existence, but it appears that her aspirations to becoming an astronomer are only just getting started. The desire to develop rockets has piqued my curiosity. To witness their rockets, I’d love to visit the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where NASA is based,” she stated.
